#ParkIt

Which gender is the better driver? This is a question that many people - couples, in particular - seem to debate on a very frequent basis. Each time I get into the car with my significant other, I can never enjoy the ride; I am always the co-pilot. Part of me blames my desire to help others when they are in need - he needed my guidance, I thought - and the other part is due to my desire to remind him that I never expect for my life to end in an accident where the contact was initiated by him. I am sure I'm not the only female whose done this either. To give him some credit, however, his parking is great. My competitive spirit, nonetheless, urged me to take this video, which I've so confidently title, #ParkingQueen, and send it to him while in class.

Even after he saw it, he wasn't impressed. Then again, why am I not surprised. He told me that he drives and parks better. While this is still up for debate in our world, I did some looking around and saw that there are, undoubtedly, people who do a wayyyyy better job at maneuvering a car than I even thought possible.

This video is just amazing. I know that breaking world records is a big deal, and often, the tricks that people do are so silly I can't imagine practicing. Although it does not show on their faces, and their skills make it seem easy, these two men have been working hard to accomplish this. Now, I DO NOT HAVE A TRANSLATION for the video. Still, actions speak louder than words... and this video, I'm certain, will have me and my partner quiet for some time.

After this, I am not motivated to break a world record, but I am driven (like that pun?) to make sure that women don't get a bad rep for their skills on the road. Keep pushing, ladies!

#FoodBabe: Only Americans Eat Yoga Mat

Always intrigued by the things that are included in the Nutrition Facts columns located on the back of the products that I purchase, I actively research the names and labels that I am not certain about. I was not always like this until I had my first experience at a Food Market. To be clear: a local Market is NOT a Grocery Store. Yes, you purchase food items at both locations, however, the experience is different as you are more likely to find better quality at a market. If you can't tell where this is headed, I'll keep it short and let you know that I'm an advocate for Organically Grown Products. While it does not, yet, conveniently fit into my college-student, part-time working budget, it is something that I am willing to invest in because, ultimately, it is my health that matters.

This video that I discovered is of a food blogger - FoodBabe (she's awesome!) - who has done a great deal of research herself, and found that there is something different about the food in America, in comparison to other countries.

Food is not meant to be a "filler." We eat with for a reason: to replenish and nourish our bodies. Food intake has become a topic of discussion over the last decade, especially since obesity has hit an all time high - - and in our country, in particular. It is crucial for people to be aware of the things that they do that can, potentially, have negative long-term affects on their bodies so that they can prevent them. If you do not pay attention to what is in the food you eat, you put yourself at risk... for a whole list of things that is too long to type in this limited space.

I have travelled abroad and the food is delicious, but not to die for. No food is worth dying over. Watch the video and make the necessary changes.

#LikeAGirl

This is one of the most inspiring videos that I have seen in a while. It touched me because of it's blatant honesty in approaching an issue that all girls will face at some point in time. The fact that is it a commercial did not leave my mind; I am more than aware that some of this, if not all of it, was scripted to fit the time frame and fit the purpose of the project. That does not, however, distract from the meaning that lies within it: in some point in time, every girl will believe that it is an insult to be herself. The lack of confidence is clear in this commercial, as both genders demonstrate what it means to perform different tasks "like a girl" for the camera. The difference in their approach, by the end, is not really breathtaking, but enlightening.

There are a number of gender issues floating around in the world and I am certain that the world will never get to address them all. As long as there are people, however, who are willing to display the differences in the most blatant but creative ways, I think that things have a better chance for improving.

Girls, from birth, are treated differently than their male counterparts. Parents are more fragile with holding them, refer to them as delicate, flowery, soft, and more likely to break. As a young girl, you are taught to be like or better than boys. Without a doubt, competition between children, boys and girls, is fierce. By the time that puberty rolls around, things are different. The way in which nature operates on girls, in comparison to boys, makes it seem as though there is another world girls need to now explore, and they later find out that it is filled with the expectations that the adult world has long waited to place on their shoulders. Is it fair? No. Is it life? Certainly.

This commercial does something different when it shows the younger boy trying to defend his sister by not seeing her as just another girl. In his refusal to insult his sister, he recognizes that there is something not quite right with placing standards or judgements on others if they can easily be applied to people whom we care about. If men - all men - care enough about any young girl in their life, as much as he cares about his sister, then I'm more than certain that the outlook young girls will have on life, while experiencing puberty will change. As long as women can inform young girls of their stages in life as something unique, beautiful and precious then I am certain that the levels of confidence will change as well. Look closely, I am suggesting cooperation from men and women... no one is excused.

This is not a call to arms to fight this thing in one day. It is a call to be more aware of the things we say, because they, essentially, change how we feel and, ultimately, what we do.

Speak, then Do!

Actions speak louder than words: It is a common mantra that is used by many, but expressed by few. I have another blog, Modern Morena Speaks (MMS), where I place all of my thoughts and ideas and rants on this virtual page that I've grown accustomed to loving. It has been a pleasure being able to come up with topics to talk about and let my ideas loose on the web. Though I have not been doing this blogging for too long, I have noticed a lack in movement within myself. It's so stationary. I must be in one place (unless I'm on a train) in order to write these things down, and I've found that it's best for me to do it all in one sitting, as to not lose track of the point I was trying to get across to my readers. The solution - Movement.

While I will still have MMS active online, I would like to introduce this blog to you all as well. The purpose of this blog is to tape, screenshot, Snap, video, and record all of the moments that encourage me to write. Essentially, you all will see where my inspiration comes from. Now, this may be a combination of posts not created by me alone. I plan to use YouTube videos to post some things that I find funny, influential, or, at least, significant enough to share with you all.
